OK, here's an added feature where I take you behind the scenes for a glimpse of how Blink Kitty Love gets put together, where the inspiration comes from, what tools I'm using, whether I've figured out the character's day jobs yet, if I'm going to print FlipBooks and take them to comic conventions, stuff like that.
Let's go backwards and start with the most recent episode, Bathing Blossom. I'm trying in the initial series of animations to look at each of the characters as more of an individual, to let the fans get to know them. Which means I have to get to know them...and Tammy worried me. She's a bit too girly girl for me and I didn't know where to start. And then Blossom Dearie died.
Blossom Dearie was a wonderful singer with the perfect name who would end up my last.fm playlist on the nights I was in a Jazz mood. And Tammy wanted to be that kind of singer, connecting with a crowd, pulling them in with her voice, mesmerizing with her unique sound. Now, one of my favorite Fred Astaire songs is "I Won't Dance" and Dearie's take on that makes for an excellent version. I had that in my head for days, after listening to it up to the legal limit for non subscribers on last.fm. I also wandered around crooning "you know what, you're handsome, you know what, too handsome" to the dapper but mischievous Cooper the Kitten.

Soon, the band will have a kitten; Cooper's been banging his butt on my keyboard too much for them not too.
Bathing Blossom took the most sessions to put together, four for FlipBooming and one for putting the finished animation into GarageBand and adding music. Started out in grand piano, punchy, but that sounded too shrill in a few places so I tried a few things and ended up with Upright Bass.
I wasn't expecting to be very thrilled with the final product as it had been a long (for me) slog about a character I really needed to get to know myself, but I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. It has a nice touch of romance with a flirty flair. Hope you enjoyed it.
