You? Is there one? Is it warm or cold blooded? Cute or deadly? And for our fellow shirt.wooters!, has our t-shirt haven really been taken over by cats, because we're not sure we mind (check our name again, we're converts.)
Seventh Ink is having a Kickstarter with art based on the animal inside. We're in tune with the Belligerent Bengal*, the Party Croc seems kind of cool but the Wisest Owl gives us a spooked, look over your shoulder to see what's flying below the sonar feel. We don't trust him. But we do like the idea of channelling/repping the beauty or beast inside. So we've been thinking about the animal kingdom and the songs it inspires:
TK mood: never one to agree animal: cheetah (running as fast as he can the other way)
"So I sent it to a place in the middle of nowhere
With a big black horse and a cherry tree.
Now it won't come back, 'cause it's oh so happy
And now I've got a hole for the world to see"
"Black Horse and A Cherry Tree" KT Tunstall
Tinker mood: prowling with a side of graffiti (TK's not the only one who can howl) animal: otter (skews playful, uses tools)
"Howling to the moonlight on a hot summer night
Singin' the blues while the lady cats cry
"Wild stray cat, you're a real gone guy"
I wish I could be as carefree and wild
But I got cat class and I got cat style"
Stray Cat Strut Stray Cats
Ty mood: sentimental animal: golden eagle (soaring, can't be dragged away but might fly)
"No sweeping exits or offstage lines
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away"
"Wild Horses" The Sundays (Rolling Stones version will also pass but we're in a Buffy music mood some nights)
Tammy mood: why not animal: hound (perhaps also on the verge of mood: metaphor mingling with low slang)
"Johnny sings a love song Like a bird
Sings the sweetest love song
You ever heard
But when he sings to my gal
What a howl
To me he's just a wolf dog On the prowl"
"Bird Dog" Joan Jett and The Blackhearts
And a bonus: "Police Dog Blues" Blind Blake
Things we are paying attention to:
The Mets -- just dropped out of first place. But we are very happy it's baseball season again. We like our Crackerjacks.
GIrl in A Coma. Saw them in concert last week. Played some of our favorite songs ("One Eyed Fool", "Smart", "Walking After Midnight"), which sounded SO much fuller bolder better live. Have been driving around with their latest CD, Exits and All The Rest, in the car stereo. Need to finish off Adventures in Coverland by buying the third EP so we can burn it to a CD and add it to the car mix.
Joan Jett and The Blackhearts were off to play Lollapalooza concerts in South America (yes, minor case of travel envy). Good video interview with Jett about her expectations and excitement. What we want to know is did she like any of the South American (or other) performers? We need some new music for spring driving. Although thanks to that interview, we are going to try Jane's Addiction.
Goodjoe. We want this design by kevlar51 to be a shirt so if you're a Goodjoe voter go give it a high five.
And we'll give you a t-shirt of the week since we're in a rock and roll mood. And it's been too long between robots (and t-shirts, we have shockingly been fiscally responsible recently aka broke). But the Sex Drugs shirt from shirt.woot is one we must have.
Good night. Play yourselves out.
